Port Hotels
For those taking a cruise, here are some hotels and areas I recommend staying in the night before your sailing.
👦🏻 Joey Advice
When you take a cruise, you should always arrive at least a day early to the port city where the cruise will set sail from. Trying to fly in the morning of the cruise puts you at risk of missing boarding due to flight delays and traffic. The ship will not wait for you if you’re late!
The JustJoeyTravels Advantage 👦🏻
Firsthand knowledge of the most popular port cities: I know the neighborhoods and hotels that will enhance your cruise vacation, and the ones to avoid (gross).
Catering to your personal wants and needs: Maybe there’s a gym you want to be close to, or you need to do some last-minute shopping before embarkation. Instead of generic one-size-fits-some recommendations, I’ll find the best hotels specifically for you.

What Can Happen Arriving Morning of Cruise
Miss boarding & Miss the Entire Cruise
When you take a cruise, you should always arrive at least a day early to the port city where the cruise will set sail from. Trying to fly in the morning of the cruise puts you at risk of missing boarding due to flight issues and traffic. In particular, flight delays and cancellations can happen for lots of unforeseeable reasons. The ship will not wait for you if you’re late, regardless of the reason!
Waste Your 1st Day of Vacation
Hurrying to the port right after the stress and hustle of flights and airports won’t put you in a great place to start the cruise vacation you’ve paid so much money for and have been looking forward to for months. I have too often met people onboard who were real tired on their first night of the cruise because they took a red-eye flight or they had to rush from the airport to the port trying to not be late for boarding. Don’t waste your first day of a big vacation like this!
Forget Things
When we rush, we tend to forget things. Did I lock the door? Did I pack all my prescription meds? OMG WHERE IS MY PASSPORT?!? You’d be surprised by the amount of people that don’t don’t know where their passport is when they arrive at the port.
