Port Hotels: Los Angeles
Taking a cruise from the City of Angels? These are the areas I recommend staying the night before your sailing, including some hotel options.
Remember, you always want to get to the port city at least a day before the cruise sets sail. Flying in in the morning is risky as your flight could be canceled or delayed, and the ship will not wait for you!

Torrance
Roughly halfway between LAX and the port, Torrance is about a 25 minutes drive to both. This area is my top recommendation for those flying into LAX the day before who want to have the most hassle-free stay before their cruise.
This Marriott was renovated in late 2020 and is right across from the Del Amo Fashion Center shopping mall. Grab dim sum at Din Tai Fung, one of my favs! Towards Sepulveda Blvd are Walmart, Target, CVS, and even a Hobby Lobby for any last-minute crafting before the cruise. A full-size 24-Hour Fitness is a short walk for gyming.
LAX Airport
Staying closer to LAX can be a good option for those flying in on a late flight and want to get to the hotel ASAP, while not being super far from the port.
The Belamar isn’t right beside the airport (you don’t want to that!), but it’s only about 10-12 minutes away by car, and it’s a short walk to the Manhattan Village shopping mall. Pick up cruise toiletries and snacks from CVS and Ralphs, even some last-minute tech at the Apple Store, and come to my restaurant JOEY Manhattan Beach (okay, it’s not my restaurant, but wouldn’t that be cool?!?)
West Hollywood
It’s very tempting to stay in the West Hollywood before your cruise, but know this:
It’s a long drive from West Hollywood to the port: 1 hour at best, over 90 minutes if traffic is bad.
As long as you leave enough time to get to the port in the morning, an LA cruise is a great chance to visit WeHo. Even better, visit after your cruise and you don’t have to worry about missing the ship!
Nestled on a quiet street that’s only a block off of Santa Monica Blvd, the La Peer hotel really gives you the feel of living in West Hollywood. This location is the best for exploring the famous WeHo bars and clubs like Micky’s and The Abbey, all of which are within a 10-min walk, and so are tons of great restaurants like SUR and Catch LA. Don’t forget to stop by Salt & Straw to check out their seasonal and rotating ice cream flavors 😋
Ahhh, the infamous Ramada in WeHo - many gays have stayed here because it’s pretty much the only affordable hotel that’s walking distance to the bars and clubs. On a quieter part of Santa Monica Blvd, it’s great for gym-goers, with the new John Reed right across the street and Equinox just north on the famous Sunset Blvd.
The Hotel Won’t Pick Itself
You wouldn’t want that anyway, so let me pick the best hotel for you
